So I went and looked at a Jag you are last night:

Kinja'd!!!

It is certainly all there, runs on ether (just needs a fuel pump to get back on the road, the seller assured me), right hand drive, manual, 3.8 dohc straight six just like the ones used to win Le Mans multiple times in the fifties, the right and proper power plant for all Jags.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Unfortunately, that is the good, the bad is cheap repaint many years ago with lots of Bondo around the bottom perimeter of the car, some an inch thick or more.

It sucks to be a semi-rationale adult sometimes, the smell of the original leather interior is beyond intoxicating, but I can’t get past the years of work (at my pace) to get the body solid.

How much are they asking for it? One in decent condition I think is work around $25K to $30K.

In the condition I see this, it’s a Nice Price at under $10,000.

Dog’s eyes tell it all.  You are in a Cujo situation-- back away and glide toward the door.  Don’t make eye contact

Aw nuts...I would have loved to see this rebuild. But I understand.

I applaud your restraint. I’m not sure I’d be so cautious. After all, what is a little welding to get to own a Jaaaaaaag?

Hmmm, all the mechanicals present, working engine in the best (3.8) size, the S type had vastly improved suspension and handling over the Mk2, probable disaster of a body.

In other words, it’s only a custom tube frame and a lowslung curvy fiberglass body away from being a sweet 1960s-style racing s pecial.

How hard can that be?

It is under 10, and I am sure part out could get you close if not past the asking price, but even in its condition would be a shame to part out, all the parts or there, I think it would run without too much.

My first text when I got out there was, “will the do g eat me if I get out of the car?" Yes, it was son of Cujo, 100 plus pounds brindle beast.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I can't in good conscience give you a star, I love the Jag six, and the engine may be the best thing on the car.

Actually one of my many unrealized automotive dreams is building a C type replica......

You need to start with a Mk7 then - they share pretty much all the mechanicals with a C Type or XK120, and unlike an XK120 are cost-effective don or cars.

Buying one’s on the top of my Lottery list. From these guys , who along with Lynx are the cream of the C Type replica crowd. Aluminum body, ma de to origi na l drawings, OCD level of attention to detail , a bout the same price as a new F Type.

Cheers too! PS Bondo is just a state of mind. Find someone who is a mud artist and can make it presen ta ble and drive it in the summer!

Yes, I have enjoyed a few cars, including a BMW 2002 a few years back, that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to to afford if I hadn't been able to overlook or overcome the stigma of rust, still drove and looked nice.

If it looks good, and drives good, it is good! I’d take the bondo discount every time!
